The Maintenance Enforcement Process (MEP) is being implemented in phases, following the passing of the Family Justice Reform Act 2023 in Parliament on 8 May 2023. The first phase of the MEP commenced on 16 January 2025.

In the second phase, which commences on 1 October 2025, the MEP will expand its coverage to include first-time applications to enforce payment of maintenance arrears of $10,000 or more owed to applicants under maintenance orders

The MEP will:

  1. Deter non-payment of maintenance;
  2. Make enforcement easer when there is non-payment of maintenance;
