The London outfit is anchored by KC Toby Landau, KC Matthew Gearing and KC Ng Jern-Fei.

A Singaporean law practice has become the first to set up an outpost in the United Kingdom, anchored by three King’s Counsels (KC).

Duxton Hill Chambers launched its London outfit on Aug 28, with KC Toby Landau, KC Matthew Gearing and KC Ng Jern-Fei as its anchors.

Duxton Hill Chambers London, a fully fledged barristers’ chambers, offers a platform for its members to conduct litigation and international arbitration work in and from the UK.

“Duxton Hill Chambers London represents a milestone in our evolution as a set of chambers, which we hope will help further Singapore’s expansion as a legal hub to other jurisdictions,” said Gearing.

“It is the first time that a Singapore brand is establishing a presence at the English Bar and will serve as a catalyst to help further grow Singapore’s expanding footprint in the global legal services market.”

Unlike English law practices that have established a presence in Singapore, Duxton Hill Chambers – founded in 2021 – is a group made up entirely of Singapore-qualified practitioners, and counts barristers, advocates, arbitrators and former senior judges as members.

The members are neither partners nor employees, but are instead self-employed practitioners.

The three KCs anchoring the London outpost are each recognised internationally for their work in complex, high-stakes disputes.

They have been admitted to the Singapore and London Bars, and are also arbitrator members of Temple Chambers in Hong Kong.

Landau is a barrister, advocate and arbitrator. The first Queen’s Counsel to be admitted to the Singapore Bar, he practises from the Republic and London.

Gearing also maintains a dual practice in London and Singapore, focusing on commercial arbitration and public international law, particularly in the energy and infrastructure sectors.

Ng has professional affiliations in London, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, and is the only KC conversant in English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Malay.

Duxton Hill Chambers’ other Singapore-based members include Senior Counsel (SC) VK Rajah, former attorney-general and judge of appeal; SC Quentin Loh, former judge of the Supreme Court; and SC Chan Leng Sun. They are Duxton Hill Chambers London’s associated members.
